TV Asahi
TITLE:
The Perfect Manual-Shochu
A stylish Japanese TV series—offering guidance to young bachelors trying to woo the object of their affections—devoted an episode to shochu, a Japanese distilled spirit. Because the series' distributor sold the episode to a major international air carrier as an in-flight video aimed at both Japanese- and English-speaking audiences, the translation and subtitles for the video posed unique challenges.
Our translation-subtitling team and our bilingual video editor consulted closely with TV Asahi producers to preserve the elegant mood and feel of the show. We translated all the on-screen dialog and video supers into English and selected a stylized English font to convey the sophisticated look of the original Japanese dialog and supers. Our editor then added an English voice-dub track to the original Japanese audio track of the show's flamboyant host and dulcet-toned narrator.
